Coin Store

Coin and currency collecting or numismatics is more than just a rich-man’s hobby. In fact, if you look through old boxes and purses, you may even just find exquisite numismatic treasures there. Wherever you live, whatever your local currency, there may be an existing market for old coins from that area that you don’t know about, or an old coin that you picked up during your travels to some place may be the exact specimen that would complete an enthusiast’s collection. And it could just be the difference between living where you do now or moving into that suburban home you always dreamed of. Here are some of the things you may want to go over before you start scraping all your old coins though.

There are many currency coin collecting stores that you can find online and within your vicinity. But before you decide which store to turn to, it may be worthwhile to consider your reason for going there. If you intend to buy a lot of ancient coins, for instance, then you should be careful to go to a trusted store, one that comes highly recommended by other collectors. Alternately, you can opt to pick up small lots of ancient coins from various coin stores, hence improving your odds. Beware of stores carrying coin counters, because you need to go through what you are buying and see if there is anything in the lot that shows promise.
Before you decide to buy a coin, be sure of its authenticity. To do this, you would have to check it against a coin catalogue and though this may take some patience and effort, imagine the rewards it could yield you if you have made a genuine find. The most sought-after coins are those that were minted in ancient Rome, Greece or Egypt, but old coins from other countries also have a substantial worth for the avid collector. The other advantage is that you don’t have to shell out too much cash because it’s not just the gold coins that appreciate in value. Try looking for coins that carry an important date or coins which have designs that were altered.

Currency notes that have mistakes or designs that were discontinued also have a good demand. Old United States notes with their face value in ‘cents’ are well appreciated by collectors.
If, on the other hand, you are looking out for coin stores to sell some of your existing collection, you should opt for an ancient coin store rather than just any coin store in your vicinity.
You are more likely to receive a low offer from a run-of-the-mill coin store for two reasons. The first being that such a vendor may not appreciate your coin and the second is that even if he does, he may just be on the lookout for a great bargain. There are also coin stores online that you can try your luck at, but be sure to check other clients’ comments about such stores before rushing into any deal with them.
